China Merchants History Museum

China Merchants History Museum, located at 21 Yanshan Road, Shekou, Shenzhen, belongs to China Merchants Group. It is the first enterprise history museum in Shenzhen that integrates cultural relics collection, collection, exhibition, history education, research and academic exchange.

The History Museum of China Merchants Group was established on the basis of the "historical materials exhibition room" of the archives of China Merchants Group and opened in September 2004. China Merchants Group has invested 10 million yuan for the construction, covering an area of 3430 square meters, with a construction area of 6153 square meters. The total exhibition area is nearly 2000 square meters, equipped with domestic advanced intelligent management system and fire control system.

Introduction to the new museum

Entering the new museum, the most eye-catching highlight is the newly designed historical materials exhibition hall. It adopts realistic technique, with novel conception, rich pictures and texts, dignified and pleasing colors, bright and dark lighting effect, and long and profound historical atmosphere. Taking the time as the main line, the exhibition includes the memorial of Li Hongzhang's founding of China Merchants Group, the letter of investment invitation at the beginning of its establishment, the first constitution of China Merchants Group, the shares of China Merchants Group, the leading seal, the water transport documents of the late Qing Dynasty, the remains of the Anti Japanese sunken ship of China Merchants Group, the life and death certificate of China Merchants Group Seamen's uprising, the detailed map of Hong Kong circled when Chairman Li Xiannian approved the establishment of Shekou Industrial Zone, and Deng Xiaoping's title Nearly 500 cultural relics, such as "maritime world", represent the 130 year history of China Merchants Group, and also reflect the difficult development of China's national industrial and commercial enterprises for more than a century. On the one hand, they feel that the historical materials are rich and precious, and the contents reflected in the exhibition are true and credible. On the other hand, after having a deep understanding of the history of China Merchants Group, they feel proud and excited for the national enterprises that are still full of vitality after so many frustrations and for the rejuvenation of the great motherland. Foreign businessmen once said that such an exhibition hall of enterprise historical materials with a long history is rare in foreign countries.

History of development

After the opening of the exhibition hall, at first, most of them were employees of China Merchants Group. Later, many experts, scholars, Chinese and foreign businessmen, residents, employees of surrounding enterprises and tourists came in droves, and there was an endless stream of visitors. In just four months, there have been over a thousand visitors.

The close connection with modern Chinese history has enriched the cultural connotation of China Merchants historical materials exhibition hall, which is far beyond the scope of general enterprise historical materials exhibition hall and has profound social historicity. With the increase of visiting activities, the exhibition work has been improved continuously, and higher requirements have been put forward for the collection, management, excavation, research and utilization of archives. The focus of archives work has gone beyond the original scope of archives work. Therefore, Hu Zheng, vice president of China Merchants Group, came up with the idea of establishing "China Merchants History Museum". After a period of preparatory work, the museum preparation work was carried out by the archives.

On May 17, 2004, China Merchants submitted the "request for instructions on applying for naming" China Merchants Historical Museum "to Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of culture. After Chen Wei, director of Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of culture, personally led a team to inspect the museum, he thought that on the basis of further enriching historical objects and materials, China Merchants historical materials exhibition hall could be transformed into China Merchants Historical Museum, and the foundation of patriotism education could be built This is of great significance to vigorously carry forward the enterprise spirit of "patriotism, self-improvement, pioneering and integrity" of China Merchants Group, and to encourage industrial and commercial enterprises and people from all walks of life to strive for the prosperity of the motherland. On July 30, Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of culture approved the formal reply of China Merchants, and expressed full support for the establishment of "China Merchants History Museum". It believed that the "China Merchants History Museum" had all the conditions for the establishment of "China Merchants History Museum" in terms of site, organization, funds, collections, basic display and fire safety, and agreed to make "China Merchants History Museum" a museum As the only industry Museum run by an enterprise in Shenzhen, it is included in the museum management series of the whole city, and has made guidance for the main tasks after its establishment.

How to implement and operate it was not very clear at that time. Therefore, the chief librarian of the archives, Le Junren, led the main business personnel to visit the Shenzhen cultural relics management committee and Shenzhen Museum, and asked for advice with an open mind. Director Huang Zhonghe of the cultural management office and deputy director Yang Yaolin of the museum made a serious analysis and guidance, which provided a lot of experience and reference.

It was the first task at that time to position the museum. Some advocate showing the history of China's shipping industry, and some advocate showing the history of China Merchants. After repeated discussions, it is concluded that on the basis of the existing display, it is most feasible to enrich the physical exhibits and show the history of the enterprise. Therefore, before the opening of the museum, the purpose of the museum was to collect the historical relics of China Merchants Group, display the development process of China Merchants Group, and study the economic development of modern China.

September 6, 2004 is the first company day of China Merchants Group. China Merchants Group will open the History Museum of China Merchants Group on the company day.
