Zhonghua temple was founded in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1300 years. It is located on the Bank of Lagu River and the top of Zhonghua temple mountain in Zhonghua temple village, Wangbin Township, Hunnan District, Shenyang. It spans Shen and Fu cities. It is a large religious tourism scenic spot integrating Buddhism and Taoism. It is also the only temple named after "Zhonghua" in China.

Basic introduction

Zhonghua temple was founded in the Tang Dynasty, with a history of more than 1000 years. It is located on the Bank of Lagu River in Liushan village, Lagu Township, Fushun County, and on Zhonghua temple village and Zhonghua temple mountain, Wangbin Township, Dongling District, Shenyang City. It spans Shenyang and Fushun. It is a large religious tourism scenic spot integrating Buddhism and Taoism.

Zhonghua temple was once the center of Buddhism in history. Since the Tang Dynasty, with its rich cultural connotation and a large number of temple cultural relics, it has attracted countless literati and believers to write poems and paintings, and pay homage to Buddhism.

Temple legend

It is said that after the Tang Dynasty won the world, it searched for the Dragon veins of the world. One day, the prime minister Wei Zheng watched the sky at night and saw that there was a dragon vein in the northeast, so he inspected it in person. He found that the mountain range known as Lingshan is like a giant dragon, and there is a big river under the dragon's head. According to the ancient cloud, "when the air becomes wind, it disperses, when the boundary water stops." when the dragon is near the water, it has gradually become a climate. It is said that when the Dragon reaches the middle of the river, it will soar into the air and threaten the Tang Dynasty. Therefore, Wei Zheng special general Yuchi Gong led his troops to build a temple on the dragon head, named it "Lingshan Temple", and dug a ditch on the dragon's back, called "duanlong ditch", to suppress the dragon. According to the historical records, Lingshan dragon is the earliest geomantic omen treasure land in Shenyang. Shenyang is known as the birthplace of one dynasty, and the reputation of two emperors echoes each other. Therefore, there is an old legend around Zhonghua Temple: Shenyang is the capital of emperors, and Lingshan Zhonghua temple is the source of emperors. All the believers who come to Zhonghua temple can achieve their wishes.

When Lingshan temple was handed down to the fourth generation, master Haishun, a monk in the temple, raised two giant boa, of which the female BoA's forehead showed "Zhong" in the middle and the male BoA's forehead showed "Hua" in the middle, so they were called "Zhong boa" and "Hua boa". Later, "Zhonghua" became an immortal and became a Dharma protector in the temple.

In the early Qing Dynasty, Lingshan temple was changed to Zhonghua Temple according to the merits and virtues of the two boas.

Temple reconstruction

Unfortunately, this famous Buddhist temple with a long history was destroyed during the cultural revolution, resulting in the ancient temple Qingqi and the sound of bells and drums for decades. In 2004, the renovation of Zhonghua temple and the construction of Zhonghua Temple scenic spot started. After two years of intensive construction, the Zhonghua Temple scenic spot in Liaoning Province, which reappears the style of ancient temples in the Tang Dynasty, was officially opened to tourists on September 21, 2006. The architectural style of the scenic spot adopts the style of the Tang Dynasty, which is simple, generous and magnificent. After completion, the scenic spot of Zhonghua Temple consists of seven parts, including Zhonghua temple, Longevity Palace and Chinese ten thousand Buddha pagoda, covering an area of more than 60 hectares. The whole project of Zhonghua Temple maintains the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The entrance is a large memorial archway inscribed by Zhao Puchu. The main scenic spots are Zhonghua temple, Longevity Palace, ancestral pagoda, five hundred arhat hall, Buddha chanting hall, lecture hall, Chinese ten thousand Buddha pagoda, etc. The main architectural style of the temple is majestic and grand. It is an important Buddhist temple in Northeast China, presided over by abbot shangzhaoxia, President of Liaoning Buddhist Association.

Zhonghua Temple scenic spot is a key project introduced in Fushun County during the Tenth Five Year Plan period. The project of Zhonghua Temple restoration was constructed by Shenyang Guofan group. It was planned in 2002, constructed in 2003 and completed in 2007. Zhonghua temple has a planning area of 60 hectares, a building area of 8307 square meters, and a greening rate of 90.3%.
