Sichuan Conservatory of music is one of the nine major conservatories in China and one of the 31 independent undergraduate art colleges determined by the Ministry of education. At the beginning of March 1939, Xiong Foxi, a pioneer of Chinese drama movement and a famous drama educator, founded the "Sichuan Provincial Drama Education Experimental School" with drama department. In June 1959, it was renamed Sichuan Conservatory of music. Sichuan Conservatory of music is the only multi-disciplinary and multi-level comprehensive art college in Southwest China, which integrates Seven Disciplines of music, fine arts, dance, drama, media, industrial design and art management.

Historical evolution
Chengdu Art College
In March 1939, Xiong Foxi, the pioneer of Chinese drama movement and drama educator, founded the "Sichuan Provincial Drama Education Experimental School" with drama department.
In November 1939, in order to avoid the bombing of Japanese aggressors' planes, the school moved from Chengping street in Chengdu to Jixiang temple in Xinmin Township, Pixian County, northwest of Chengdu, and continued to run the school. At the same time, the music department was added, and the name of the school was changed to "Sichuan Provincial drama music experimental school".
In the spring of 1941, the school changed its name to "Sichuan Provincial Technical College".
In August 1942, the school was renamed "Sichuan Provincial Art College". Mr. Li Youxing, a painter and educator returned from studying in France, served as the president of the school, and set up four subjects: music, applied art, architecture and painting.
In October 1950, the Music Department of West China University merged into "Sichuan Provincial Art College", and the school was renamed "Chengdu Art College".
In October 1953, the Music Department of Chongqing southwest people's Art College (formerly the Northwest art school in Linfen, Shanxi Province) merged into Chengdu Art College to establish southwest music college, with three departments of composition, vocal music and instrumental music.
In 1957, the school added the Department of national instrumental music.
Sichuan Conservatory of music
In 1959, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, southwest Conservatory of music was officially upgraded and renamed Sichuan Conservatory of music, becoming one of the first six universities with undergraduate education level in China.
In 1986, the University obtained the right to confer the MA degree in music.
In 2003, the University began to recruit international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
In 2005, the University won the first batch of master of Arts (MFA.) professional degree awarding rights approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
In 2006, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.
In 2008, the University won the "excellent" grade in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education.
Since 2009, the University and Sichuan University have jointly trained doctoral students in music communication.
On July 2, 2020, he will join the Art Alliance of colleges and universities in Chengdu Chongqing economic circle.
