historical origin
Looking for ferry bridge, formerly known as Miedu bridge, was built in the second year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty (1298). It is said that it was built by Kunshan monks to collect money. According to the Suzhou dictionary and other books published in 1997, the water section of the fuduqiao used to be wide and could not pass without ships. But the boatman bullied the passengers and even plundered their belongings. Kunshan and Shang Jingxiu almost suffered. So Jingxiu appealed to the government, cured the boatman and raised money to build the bridge. After the completion of the bridge in 1300, it was named "Miedu". From the literal point of view, it means to destroy the ferry. From the literal point of view, we can see the ambition of Jingxiu to eliminate the violent and violent phenomena. "Wu county annals" records: "the annals are flat and violent.". Because of the homonym of Mie and Mian in Suzhou dialect, it is falsely called "fuduqiao".
Repair in past dynasties
It was built in October of the second year of Dade (1298) of the Yuan Dynasty and completed in March of the fourth year of Dade. Kuang Zhong, the governor of Suzhou, was rebuilt during the orthodox period of Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, and rebuilt again in 1985. The bridge is a thin single arch, east-west, with a total length of 81.3 meters, a clear span of 19.3 meters and a rise height of 8.5 meters. The original two slopes have 53 stone steps each. In order to meet the needs of rapid flow, large volume of passing ships and frequent trips, the bridge adopts the design of increasing the span instead of making multiple holes; there is no filling layer between the vault and the face stone, and the slope length of the bridge body is increased as far as possible, so as to make the bridge smooth and easy, high but not steep, stable and generous, which can be called a successful work of ancient bridges in the south of the Yangtze River. In 2002, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province.
In the 1970s, a new herringbone bridge was built about 60 meters to the north of the ancient bridge, named "Fudu bridge". The bridge is a single span reinforced concrete truss arch bridge with a width of 15 meters, a length of 75 meters and a span of 60 meters. It is the first large truss bridge designed and constructed by Suzhou city. The bridge was completed and opened to traffic in June 1975. It is not only a city bridge, but also a main highway bridge from Wujiang to Changshu via Suzhou. It was demolished in 2003.
In November 2002, a new bridge (Highway Bridge) was built on Nanmen road in the south of the bridge. New ferry
It is located about 60 meters south of the ancient bridge, with a total length of 337.4 meters. The West span of the bridge is 127 meters, the East span is 151.4 meters, the clear span of the main bridge is 28 meters, and the height is 8 meters. The total width of the new bridge is 36 meters. In addition to the carriageway and sidewalk, there are also special sidewalks to facilitate people to go up and down the bridge for sightseeing and walking. The designed maximum navigable water level is 2.12 meters (Yellow Sea elevation). It was completed and opened to traffic in June 2003.
Looking for beautiful scenery
Around the ancient canal, a large-scale small garden has been built, which includes pavilions, platforms, buildings and pavilions. There are also many statues and artistic introductions of the scenic spot in the garden. There is a boat wharf nearby to visit the whole moat. Fuduqiao scenic spot has become a good place for people to visit and relax.
Looking for the moon
"The moon in Suzhou is the most gentle, and the moon is like water flowing with the waves." there are many good places for looking for a ferry bridge to enjoy the moon. If you stand on the bridge and look at the water, you will feel like a vast expanse of blue water. The moon rises from the surface of the water in the current month, and there is a clear space between the eyes and the moonlight. If we say that there is a feeling of "bright moon on the sea" at the moment, there is a reflection of weeping willow revetment on both sides. At this time, the moon is transparent on the water surface as flat as a mirror, transparent in the fusion of water and lights, the moon and water, the sky and the ground, will gradually be immersed in this light silver pink. If you look at the moon by the stone fence on the river bank, there will be a silhouette of the bridge cave under the dark blue night sky. When the moon first rises, you will feel that this month seems to be hidden in the deep of the bridge cave. When there are more people watching the moon, it will rise slowly with a little shyness. At this time, the full moon is like a decoration on the arched sky of the bridge cave. Inadvertently, the flavor of fairy tales brings many adults back to childhood . Looking for the moon has become a unique scenery by the ferry bridge.
Sculpture of seeking crossing
There are some statues standing beside the bridge. They are the witness of more than 700 years of history of the bridge. They are silent history, telling the ups and downs of the bridge.
Looking for the night
At night, the ferry is bustling, with boats and tourists coming and going, people coming for a walk, peddlers crying and singers singing, all of which constitute a beautiful night scene.
