The Taiwan Salt Museum is the only museum on the subject of salt industry in Taiwan, which aims to preserve Taiwan's salt culture for hundreds of years.
The Salt Museum is a four story building. The surface of the building is a coating like salt particles, with white quartz plates. From a distance, it looks like a snow-white salt mountain. In addition to the interpretation of salt culture and the introduction of the wonderful use of various kinds of salt, there are also similar models of Polish rock salt mining area and Sichuan well salt, which are listed as world heritage sites. Visitors can not only understand the knowledge of salt, but also experience the exotic customs and culture.
Taiwan Salt Museum
Taiwan Salt Museum is located in Qigu District, Tainan City, Taiwan Province. It is a museum with the theme of salt industry. It is a place for education, research and promotion of salt culture in Taiwan. After more than ten years of planning, the museum finally opened in January 2005. After two years of operation in the Yanguang cultural and educational foundation, the museum is now operated by Tongmao hotel group.
Development history
The preparation for the construction of Taiwan Salt Museum can be traced back to 1994. At that time, legislators demanded that the state-owned enterprises should contribute to history and culture, and planned to build a museum. However, only Yu Guanghua, chairman of the board of directors of Taiwan Salt, agreed with this opinion. In order to build the museum, Taiyan began to collect relevant cultural relics and documents, hold photography competitions and collect old photos, and conduct oral interviews. However, in 1990, because of privatization, Taiyan company handed the museum and Yantian back to the state property bureau together, and stopped preparing the budget for the third phase of the project, which made the surrounding facilities and the subsequent planning of the salt culture park have no plans In the end, only about 80% of the facilities in the museum were completed.
Many cultural and historical workers worried that the Salt Museum would become a "cultural abandoned baby", so they asked the Cultural Construction Committee of the Executive Yuan to take over, and finally the Salt Museum would be managed by the Tainan Municipal government. However, the Tainan county government plans to transfer the Salt Museum to the National Museum of marine biology for various reasons. After multi-party coordination, it was decided to outsource the operation during the transition period. Due to the provisions of the procurement law, it is necessary to conduct public bidding, which attracts the interest of private manufacturers. In view of this situation, the Yanguang culture and education foundation and the cultural and historical workers jointly declared that they were against the profit-making oriented non-governmental enterprises involved in the operation of the Salt Museum.
Finally, the management right of the Salt Museum was still open bidding, and the salt light foundation obtained the management right for two years. In the past two years, the salt light foundation has helped to provide a lot of information about the salt industry to cultural and historical workers, graduate students and scholars. The relevant research has also helped the local government to establish historical buildings or sites related to the salt industry. However, it still loses tens of millions of yuan after one year's operation due to the shortage of income. Finally, the foundation had to maintain its basic operation until December 2006.
On the other hand, the original plan to transfer the Salt Museum to Haisheng museum was also blocked. Now the Salt Museum is still managed by the Tainan Municipal government, and the Tongmao Hotel Group has obtained the five-year management right.
