Ningyuan building, with the meaning of "tranquility and prosperity", is the former residence of Professor Lu Jiaxi, former president of Fuzhou University, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference.

There is a famous four corner watchtower in the suburb of Guangzhou, which is called shuidiaolou, but the characters Ningyuan tower are written on it. When I came to gualing village, I saw two watchtowers in the East and west of the village standing there watching each other. We are going to visit the Diaolou in the east of the village, which is called "ningyuanlou". The Diaolou is built in the water, so it is called "shuidiaolou".

Standing downstairs, the Diaolou has four floors, but the walls above two floors have more buildings, which are inverted cone-shaped, but the combination of two holes above and one hole below looks like a human face. According to reports, "face" is the machine gun and cannon mouth of the 3-and 4-story Diaolou. On the third and third floors, the four corner inverted cone-shaped gun hole fort is built with cannons and machine gun mouths for attacking the enemy, and is full of lookouts for observing the enemy situation around the building. The suspension bridge outside the watchtower and the well inside are even more amazing.

When we approached the watchtower, we found that all the buildings were made of green bricks, standing in a circular pool about 5 meters deep, with a width of about 4 meters. According to reports, the building is 21 meters high and 5 or 2 meters wide. In the west of the watchtower, there is an iron suspension bridge over the pool, which is the only access to the watchtower. There is a round hole at the corner of each floor of the watchtower, which is used to command the people on each floor of the watchtower to shout and command the battle.

Ningyuan building is surrounded by water, the fourth floor of the toilet sewage can be directly discharged to the surface.

When you go up the third floor along the revolving ladder, there are three outlooks on the wall beside the stairs. On the concrete floor of the third floor, there is still a movable wooden gun rack. On the ground, there is a moving track for the gun rack. There are big holes in the East, North and south. The reporter detailed count, there are 10 machine gun holes on the third floor, an iron door built in the south of the wall. What's amazing is that in the corner around the third floor, there is a specially built gun hole fort for shooting. The gun hole fort is about 2 meters high and can hold 3 people standing and shooting with guns. In the gun hole Fort around the third and fourth floors, there is a muzzle under the gun hole in the middle. As the gun hole on the left can't be seen from the outside, people can see the gun hole fort from the outside, just like the two eyes and one mouth of a human face. When entering the fourth floor of the Diaolou, there were 24 machine gun holes on the walls, except for the four lookouts and three blastholes at different positions! Moreover, the diameter of the blast hole on the fourth floor is about 25 cm wide. According to reports, this is because the fourth floor is the tallest and has the furthest view, so so so many buildings have been built.

In the period of the Republic of China, there was a famous person named Huang Guomin in gualing village, who strongly supported Dr. Sun Yat Sen's revolution. In the 11th year of the Republic of China, he became the county magistrate of Zengcheng County, and then resolutely opposed the Japanese invaders. The Japanese army attacked gualing village in 1941, so more than 200 men, women and children in the village hid in two watchtowers to fight against the Japanese army. Because the blockhouses were very strong and had many guns and holes, although the Japanese army had excellent weapons and equipment, they could not attack the blockhouses which were extremely strong, with strange buildings and many organs for a long time, so they had to retreat.

In 1954, a platoon of a PLA unit lived in the blockhouse for more than a year. At that time, it was learned that it was used by the PLA for air defense. The machine guns of PLA soldiers are also mounted at the mouth of the machine guns of the Diaolou, in order to prevent enemy planes from entering Zengcheng in Guangdong's airspace.
