In 2007, it was announced as the Sixth Batch of provincial cultural relics protection units by Jilin Provincial People's government.
The official residence of Zhang Zuoxiang was built in 1927 and completed in 1929. It adopts German design drawings and some materials are imported from Germany. It is a representative building in Jilin Province during the period of the Republic of China. The official residence has one floor underground and two or three floors above the ground. It is the auxiliary building office building and his villa when Zhang Zuoxiang was the governor and governor of Jilin Province, preparing to build the production facilities of Jilin waterworks. The official residence is located in the courtyard of Xiguan hotel in Jilin City, known as "Xiguan xiaohuanglou".
Zhang Zuoxiang's official residence was built in 1927. It was originally an office building built by Zhang Zuoxiang when he was in charge of the water plant project in Jilin Province. Later, because of his personal experience, he often went to the construction site of the water plant, ate and lived here. Later, he was called "Zhang Zuoxiang's official residence".
The building was investigated and designed by Edman, manager of Tianjin Shangyi Liyang company, Shi tuoerci, engineer and Zhou Bingqing. Reinforced concrete structure, a basement floor, three floors of ground building, building area of 1500 square meters. There are only a few rooms on the third floor, and the rest are balconies. In the southwest corner of the roof, there is a round pavilion with eight columns of brick and stone structure, which has a strong European architectural style. It is a typical "eclecticism" building in Jilin City during the Republic of China, with beautiful appearance, exquisite workmanship, shockproof, sound insulation and other characteristics.
In 1962, Xiguan Hotel demolished the original round Pavilion on the top of the building and converted it into a conference room. In the 1990s, the building was transformed into a bath and became a place of leisure and entertainment. In 2007, after it was re announced as a provincial cultural security unit, the bath was stopped and the building was idle.
In 2011, the additional part of the third floor was demolished, the original appearance of the roof was restored, and the basement was transformed to restore the style of doors and windows. The restored building is to be used as the reception and Exhibition Center of Xiguan hotel. It is planned to show the history, nature and folk culture of Jilin City. It is still under construction.
Zhang Zuoxiang (1881-1949), born in Yizhou, Liaoning Province, was a mason. Feng was the sworn brother of Zhang zuolin, the warlord leader, and one of the military and political officials in Northeast China. In April 1924, he served as governor of Jilin Province and deputy commander of security of the three eastern provinces. At the end of 1928, the Northeast changed its banner and became the deputy commander of the northeast frontier defense commander's office and the chairman of Jilin provincial government.
After the September 18th Incident in 1931, he acted as the commander of northeast frontier defense. After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, he successively served as a member of the Kuomintang's northeast camp Political Committee, vice chairman of the Kuomintang's northeast Xingyuan administrative committee, and Deputy commander-in-chief of the Northeast bandit suppression headquarters. On September 15, 1948, during the Liaoshen campaign, he was captured by the Chinese Communist army in Jinzhou, and was escorted to Tianjin after being released. He refused to go to Taiwan on the eve of liberation. He died in Tianjin on April 19, 1949.
As an important member of Fengxi warlord and an important historical figure in modern Jilin and even northeast China, Zhang Zuoxiang made some contributions to the municipal administration, education and railway construction of Jilin Province. For example, the construction of waterworks, the establishment of Jilin University, the laying of Ji Hai railway and so on. Especially after the Northeast changed its banner, it showed extraordinary political wisdom and national integrity in assisting Zhang Xueliang to govern the northeast, rejecting Japanese coercion and inducement, and advocating northeast autonomy. On the eve of the national liberation, refusing Chiang Kai Shek's invitation to Taiwan became the united front object that the CPC attached great importance to. As a typical building in the period of the Republic of China, the official residence is not only the historical evidence of Zhang Zuoxiang's administration as the chairman of Jilin provincial government, but also provides rare material materials for the study of the history of the Republic of China, modern urban construction and Fengxi warlord in Jilin Province.
