Changmaoling Red Deer Nature Reserve
Changmaoling Red Deer Nature Reserve is an autonomous regional nature reserve mainly for the protection of red deer. It is the only natural domestication site of red deer in Tibet. It is located in the north of Hengduan Mountains and the changmaoling River Basin in the upper reaches of Lancang River in leiwuqi County of Changdu area. Established in 1993, the reserve covers a total area of 637 square kilometers.
Changmaoling Malu nature reserve is located in the transitional zone between Hengduanshan gorge and plateau lake basin. The mountain is complete, the terrain is open and gentle. It is the northern edge of the forest area in eastern Tibet, with a slope of 20-25 ° and a relative elevation difference of 500-1000m. The annual precipitation of the reserve is 600 mm, the annual hail days are more than 18 days, the gale days are more than 80 days, the average annual temperature is 1-3 ℃, and there is no absolute frost free period. Due to the relationship between topography and climate, changmaoling area has broad mountains and simple vegetation types. It is mainly Sabina chinensis spruce forest. Under the forest are mainly deciduous shrubs, including Lonicera pubescens, Betula crassifolia and other plants. Red deer are mainly distributed in the middle and upper parts of the reserve, with an altitude of 3 800-5 000 meters. In winter, they move from alpine meadow to sheltered valley and sunny hillside or forest. More than 1000 wild red deer are distributed in the reserve. The wild red deer is a large rare animal, which belongs to the national key protected wildlife. In 1975, changmaoling red deer farm was established in nadengtong, changmaoling Township, leiwuqi County, covering an area of 3.6 square kilometers and raising more than 120 wild red deer
. In 1988, changmaoling was designated as a nature reserve to protect the wild red deer and its natural environment. In addition to red deer, there are more than 40 species of national key protected rare animals, such as leopard, white lipped deer, spotted tailed hazelnut chicken, bear monkey, snow leopard, macaque, jackal, black bear, otter, lynx, rock sheep, Tibetan snow chicken, etc.
