Hengpaitou scenic spot, also known as Fengyuan lake, is located at the source of the main channel of Pi River 20 km south of Lu'an City, Anhui Province. Liu Bocheng once wrote an inscription: "the source of bumper harvest". In 1960, Li Xiannian visited Hengpaitou. In 1985, Li Peng wrote an inscription: "Dabieshan's contribution lies in the revolution, Pishihang's contribution to the prosperity of Lu'an.". Guo Moruo once wrote a poem in praise of "removing sand and separating water, clearing turbid water, like to see the source to build the ocean".

This is an irrigation oriented project It is a large-scale water conservancy project with comprehensive utilization of shipping, power generation, urban water supply, breeding and tourism. It is located in Anhui and Henan provinces. On the Qianli Hills between the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River, it forms a dense water network and can irrigate more than 10 million mu of farmland in more than 10 counties, cities and districts. It is another large-scale artificial water conservancy project after Dujiangyan in China and one of the seven largest irrigation areas in the world. The key of Pishihang Irrigation Project is to build the headworks, raise the water level and force water to work. There are three headworks: the first is the Hengpaitou in Yu'an District, the second is hongshizui in Jinzhai County, and the third is Longhekou (including Meiling and Niujiaochong) in Shucheng county. The earliest construction of these three key projects is Hengpaitou. It broke ground in August 1958 and was completed in July 1959. The project consists of six parts: overflow dam (500m long, 7.75m high), earth dam (610m long, 7m high), main canal intake gate (5 holes, 5m clear width of each hole, 6m high, design flow 300m3 / s), scouring sluice (4 holes, 5m clear width of each hole, 3M high, design flow 320m3 / s), diversion island and ship lock (lock chamber 120m long, 6m wide, 6m high). They are like a sharp sword, cutting off the ancient Pi River. On top of the overflow dam and earth dam, the tail water and water from the three reservoirs, Foziling, Mozitan and Xianghongdian, are raised to form a vast lake with an area of 125 hectares. The lake water enters the main channel of Pi River through the sluice, and forces the water to work. In the rainy season around July every year, when the lake overflows, it passes through the overflow dam, forming a short waterfall with long training and blue waves rolling silver. It enters the old path of Pi River, flows through sujiabu, Lu'an, matouji, yinxianji and other places, and finally discharges into Huaihe River at Zhengyangguan of Shouxian county. This 125 hectare lake is called Fengyuan lake. It is the main attraction of Hengpaitou scenic spot.

Fengyuan lake is the spring of life. There are two sources of Pi River: the East branch comes from Huoshan mountain, on which there is Baimajian, the highest peak of Dabie Mountain. The water flows from thousands of mountains and valleys into Mozitan and Foziling reservoirs, and then flows northward; the West Branch comes from Jinzhai, on which there is Tiantangzhai, one of the main peaks of Dabie Mountain. The water flows from qianfengwanling into Xianghongdian reservoir, and then flows eastward. In the upper reaches of the two sources, the forest coverage rate is nearly 90%, the mountains are high, the forests are dense, the flowers are beautiful, the water is clear, and there are dozens of minerals beneficial to human body. After they merged into Fengyuan lake, they formed a unique ecological environment with high trees, lush forests, clean water, rich fish and shrimp, and flying birds. The water of Fengyuan lake continues to flow north and East, providing industrial and domestic water for Lu'an, Hefei and other towns. The clear and sweet water of Fengyuan Lake gurgles into our homes!

How natural, elegant and beautiful it is to play on Fengyuan lake! It's a great pleasure in life to take a boat, float the lake, control the wind, chop the waves, cut ten thousand pear flowers, and leave a string of laughter. Let's slow down and swim on the lake. Looking to the north of the overflow dam, the lush mountains reflect the East and West levees; the dim lake light covers the upper and lower bizhou. The diversion island between the overflow dam and the earth dam is "lover island", and "yaocui Pavilion" is built between Maolin; the diversion island between the overflow dam and the scouring sluice is "Yinshui island", and "Yangqing Pavilion" is built at the head of the island. The old Pi River Road to the north of the overflow dam is surrounded by cattle and sheep, and there are many pastoral songs. There is a "couple's house" with picnics. Egret Island

In the south of Egret Island, there are dense pine forests. At the south end of the pine forest, there is a "Tingtao Pavilion"; next to the water side of Fengyuan lake, there is the "Tomb of PI Shihang's meritorious officials".
