Jinmao Tower (JinMaoTower), also known as Jinmao Tower, is located in Lujiazui financial and Trade Zone on the Huangpu River in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is 420.5 meters tall, and is the third tallest skyscraper in Shanghai (up to 2013), third high-rise buildings in Chinese mainland and eighth tall buildings in the world. The building was started in 1994 and completed in 1999. It has 88 floors on the ground, 93 floors on top of the minaret, and 3 floors underground, with a floor area of 278000, 707 square meters, up to 130 lift and 555 rooms, has become a landmark in Shanghai. It connects with the Pearl TV Tower, adjacent to Yanan east road tunnel entrance, and connects with the subway line two. Its main building is 88 floors, 3 floors underground, and 420.5 meters high, covering 23611 square meters, with a total construction area of 290 thousand square meters. It is a multi-functional skyscraper integrating modern office buildings, five-star hotels, convention and exhibition centers, entertainment, shopping malls and other facilities, integrating Chinese tower style and Western architectural technology. It is designed by Adrian Smith, a famous designer of SOM design firm in Chicago.

Evolution of construction

On December 17, 1992, Shanghai Jinmao building was approved for construction.

On May 10, 1994, the construction of Shanghai Jinmao building started.

On August 28, 1997, the structure of Shanghai Jinmao building was capped.

On March 18, 1999, Shanghai Jinmao building opened for business; on August 28, 1999, Shanghai Jinmao building opened for business.

In 2000, Shanghai Jinmao Building implemented contract energy management and invested in the renovation of the control systems of cooling water pump, hot water pump, hotel chilled water pump and hot water pump in the office building of Shanghai Jinmao building.

The foundation of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion adopts the protective structure of reinforced concrete, which is a composite structure of high strength concrete and steel structure. Under the frame of the building is a 4-meter-thick reinforced concrete raft foundation and 429 hollow steel columns driven into the sand clay layer 65 meters deep. The support of the building mainly depends on the friction of the column. On the ground, the reinforced concrete inner tube is combined with 8 super huge columns at the outer eaves of the steel frame area to bear the vertical and horizontal loads.

The main structure of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion has the change of wall structure and shape. There are 8 heights of 3.2 m, 4 m and 5.2 M. the wall thickness above 53 floors is gradually increased from 850 mm to 450 mm in four times. The foundation bearing platform of the main building of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion is C50 high-grade concrete with a volume of 13500 cubic meters. The waterproof material is made of Cr bentonite waterproof membrane, joint sealer and multi-purpose bentonite powder. Waterproof membrane is used for large area paving, joint sealer and multi-purpose powder are used for caulking and filling holes. The excavation area of the basement of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion is nearly 20000 square meters, the perimeter of the foundation pit is 570 meters, the excavation depth is 19.65 meters, and the earthwork volume reaches 320000 cubic meters.

The main infill walls and fire partition walls of Shanghai Jinmao building are made of hollow blocks. Among them, 4901 square meters are 120 mm thick blocks, 49742 square meters are 190 mm thick blocks, 1098 square meters are 250 mm thick blocks, and 3493 square meters are 300 mm thick blocks. The roof insulation layer is also used on the skirt roof and partial roof of the main building of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion. Among them, the skirt house surface is about 7500 square meters, and the partial roof of the main building is about 2500 square meters.

 

Architectural features

Shanghai Jinmao building is designed and planned by SOM design office in Chicago, USA, created by Adrian Smith, and designed by Shanghai Modern Architectural Design Co., Ltd. The designer combines the world architectural trend with Chinese traditional architectural style. Shanghai Jinmao building, the vertical deviation of the whole building is only 2 cm, which can ensure that the 12 strong wind will not collapse, and can resist the 7 earthquake.

The exterior wall of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion is made up of large glass walls, which reflect the colors of silver, non silver, different shades and endless changes. The glass is divided into two layers, with a low-temperature conductor in the middle. The temperature outside will not affect the interior.

The hall of Shanghai Jinmao Mansion adopts round arched door frame, and the wall is made of Mediterranean porous marble, which can play a sound insulation effect; the marble on the ground is smooth but not bright, and flat but not slippery. The eight copper murals in the front hall embody the traditional Chinese calligraphy. Through the evolution of Chinese characters, from Oracle Bone Inscriptions and Zhongding inscriptions to Zhuan, Li, Kai and Cao, they reflect the 5000 year history of Chinese civilization. The corridor leading to the banquet hall is an art corridor.
