Former residence of Wang Shouren
Wang Shouren's former residence, located in Yuyao, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, is the birthplace of Wang Shouren, a great philosopher of Ming Dynasty. It is now a national key cultural relic protection unit in Zhejiang Province.
Wang Shouren, whose name is bo'an and his name is Yangming, was granted the title of Xinjian Bo and his posthumous title is Wencheng. The most famous thinker, educator, litterateur, calligrapher, philosopher and militarist in Ming Dynasty was the master of idealism philosophy in ancient East Asia.
In 1472, Wang Shouren was born in ruiyunlou, Yuyao's home, which is now located in Wang Shouren's former residence. Wang Shouren's former residence, with a total area of about 4600 square meters, faces south. It is a typical Jiangnan residential compound with large scale, neat structure and simple style. Wang Shouren's father, Wang Hua, the Minister of the Ministry of civil service in Nanjing, lived and studied here in his early years. Wang Shouren was born here and spent his childhood here. He has returned to his former residence many times in the future to live and give lectures.
