The ancient well of Yanping street was excavated in the Xianfeng Period (1851-1861). In the coastal area of Anping, the water quality is good and abundant, and a large number of residents use it. However, after the Japanese occupation, Anping began to have convenient waterways, and the well water was less and less used by people. The residents beside the well used the well water to incubate bean sprouts, and the business was booming. Gujing also had the nickname "bean sprout well"! Today, the ancient well is still hidden in the southeast corner of Anping castle. For the sake of safety, an iron frame has been built around the well. The red bricks on the inner wall of the well may need to be seen more carefully!
Yanping Street Gujing
The ancient well of Yanping street was excavated in Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty. It was located in the southeast of renlan Zhecheng of Anping at that time (now No.3, Lane 148, Yanping street, Tainan City). Due to abundant water source, sweet well water and shallow well, it has become the water for residents' daily diet and is now listed as a class III historic site.
It was built with red bricks in the Qing Dynasty. The outside was whitewashed with lime, and then the road was filled up. At present, the old well is renovated with cement, but the inner wall is still made of red bricks in the past. The stainless steel railings surround the wellhead. You can see the structure of the well. The well water is clear, and you can see the bottom. It stands safely beside the side wall of the house. In the 12th year of the Republic of China, the residents succeeded in cultivating bean sprouts by using abandoned well water. The dishes were delicious and the business was booming. For a time, the name of "bean sprout well" in Fucheng became popular. After the restoration, they were no longer fed and washed.
