Fokuang university is the first university in Taiwan with humanities and social sciences as the core of education. It is also the first comprehensive research university of traditional academy type in Taiwan.

Foguang university is founded by master Xingyun of Foguang mountain. It is also the first university in Lanyang area. Fokuang university has been established since 1993. It has experienced seven years of hard work in Lam Mei mountain of Jiaoxi. In 2000, it was founded as "Fokuang College of Humanities and Social Sciences" to recruit students. Since 2002, the University Department has officially enrolled students in small classes, with only 30 to 40 students enrolled in each department. In August 2006, the University was renamed "Foguang University". At present, there are four faculties in Foguang University, namely, the College of humanities, the school of Social Sciences and management, the College of science and technology, and the Buddhist Research Institute.
