Historical evolution
Nanputuo temple is located in the southeast of Xiamen, at the foot of Wulao peak, a famous mountain in Ludao. It faces the south, the mountains and the sea. In the Five Dynasties, there was a master who lived in Jielu, which was called "Sizhou courtyard". In the early Ming Dynasty, it was expanded to "Puzhao Temple", and in the early Qing Dynasty, it was added to the Dabei hall. Because the hall worshiped Guanyin Bodhisattva, and was in the South of Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province, it was changed to the present name.
The back hill of Nanputuo temple is known as "five old Lingxiao", which is one of the eight scenic spots in Xiamen. On the mountain, there are luxuriant trees, jagged rocks, deep caves and gullies; on the mountain, the sea and sky are vast and boundless; on the left is Xiamen University, and on the right is Institute of technology, forming a cultural area with beautiful environment and strong learning atmosphere.
Nanputuo Temple originally belonged to the hereditary system of the descendants of shuadu, the master and apprentice of Heyun sect of Linji sect. In 1924, the ambitious Zhuanfeng monk advocated innovation, changing the temple into the jungle system of selecting sages from ten directions, and selecting master Huiquan as the first abbot. The following year, he founded Minnan Buddhist College in the temple and concurrently served as the president. In 1927, when master Huiquan's three-year term as Abbot expired, he invited Master Taixu as abbot and Dean of Minnan Buddhist College. In the spring of 1934, in order to rectify the style of study and improve teaching in Minyuan, master Hongyi was invited to set up a Buddhist Yangzheng college to cultivate students' Seng character and virtue. For a time, the elite of Fujian Academy gathered together and eminent monks came out in large numbers, which brought up many outstanding monks for the domestic Buddhist circles. Some famous contemporary Buddhist masters, such as Yin Shun's mentor in Taiwan, Ruijin's master in the Philippines, the late Hong Chuan elder in Singapore, guangcha's old monk, Yanpei's master, and Zhumo's master in Malaysia, all come from Minnan Buddhist College. In 1937, the Anti Japanese war broke out, and the Fujian Academy was forced to suspend its operation. During the 12 years, more than 200 outstanding monks were trained.
In 1981, old monk miaozhan, who was deeply sad and willing, resumed the long-standing Buddhist yangzhengyuan. In 1985, with the care and support of Zhao Puchu, President of the Chinese Buddhist Association and Singapore Hongchuan elder, he resumed the Minnan Buddhist College. Under the leadership of the old monk, the educational facilities, teaching quality and the scale of the college have been greatly improved and developed, and the glory of the past has reappeared.
In 1997, the great monk Shenghui took over the post of president of the college, and the College presented a resurgent scene.
In the spring of 2016, Zengwu monk took over the post of president. With the vision of becoming a world-class Buddhist College, he carried out various reforms in Minnan Buddhist College with the times, making Minnan Buddhist College shoulder the burden of "Tathagata envoy".

Academy training
The motto of Minnan Buddhist College -- sorrow and wisdom.
He who has compassion but no wisdom is an ordinary man. He is full of compassion and wisdom. He is a famous Bodhisattva. He is benevolent. He has a deep heart of compassion. He should be more diligent and seek wisdom. The foundation of wisdom is precepts and determination. In this way, he should learn three things. First, he should practice pure precepts and practice meditation. He can gain truth and deep wisdom. Only by this wisdom can he benefit his life. He is like a lotus flower. He does not touch water, breaks all distinctions, gives up all persistence, observes truthfully, and makes a living The way of Bodhisattva is that we should be together with benevolence and others. Now we have to gather together and have great joy. We should not accept what we have seen. If we agree with you, we are willing to observe what we have seen.
