Original name
The name "Makalu" comes from the Sanskrit Maha Kala, which represents the great evil. It is also another name for the supreme god Shiva in Hinduism. Her temperament is capricious, sometimes cold and sometimes kind. Makalu has another name in the local dialect Kumba karna, meaning giant.
Makalu, which means "black giant peak" in Tibetan, describes its exposed black rock under strong wind.
Climatic characteristics
Makalu is similar to Mount Qomolangma. It is dry and windy in winter. The summer half year is rainy season, which is characterized by continental plateau climate. Generally speaking, the rainy season is from the beginning of June to the middle of September every year. The rainstorm brought by the strong southeast monsoon causes frequent ice avalanches and avalanches, resulting in the bad climate of cloud and fog on the mountain and ice and snow. From the middle of November to the middle of February of the next year, due to the strong northwest cold current, the temperature can reach - 60 ℃, and the average temperature is between - 40 ℃ and - 50 ℃. The maximum wind speed can reach 90 m / s. Only in the period from the end of April to the end of May, or from September to October, is the transition period between the wind season and the rainy season, and there are often three or four good weather lasting for 2-5 days. This is a good time for mountaineering activities. The best climbing season in the Himalayan region, including Makalu peak, is spring. The good weather cycle lasts for a long time, generally about two weeks.

Tibetan taboo
Tibetan taboos and precautions:
When addressing people, avoid calling them by their first names, and add honorific names to show respect and kindness. For example, in Lhasa, the word "La" should be added after the name; in Shigatse, the word "Aji" or "ajue" should be added before the male name.
When you visit a Tibetan home, the host must first offer the guest highland barley wine. The guest should dip a little wine with his ring finger and pop it into the sky for three times in a row to show his worship to heaven, earth and ancestors. Then take a sip. The host will fill it up in time and drink it three times. When the fourth time is full, you need to drink a cup. Otherwise, the host will not be happy, think that the guest is not polite or look down on him. When the guests come into the room and sit down, the host will pour butter tea to the guests. The guests can only drink it when the host holds it in front of them with both hands. They must not drink it by themselves. When you sit down, you should sit cross legged; when you accept a gift, you should pick it up with both hands; when you give a gift, you should bow your waist and hold your hands above your head; when you offer tea and wine, you should offer it with both hands, and you can't put your fingers in the bowl.
When drinking tea, the guest must wait for the host to hold the tea in front of him before he can reach for it, otherwise he will be considered impolite. When eating, we should pay attention to not having enough to eat, not chewing, not drinking, and not over eating. Treat guests with mutton. A piece of meat with a tail at the bottom of the sheep's spine is expensive. It should be given to the most respected guests. Tibetan people are forbidden to eat donkey meat, horse meat and dog meat. In some places, they are also forbidden to eat five claw meat and bird meat. Out of religious belief, it is generally against killing wild animals.
If you encounter religious facilities such as temples, manidui and Buddhist pagodas, you must make a detour from left to right; you must not cross over magic weapons and braziers; the Sutra tube and wheel must not be reversed. It is taboo to touch his head with hands.
