Shihongsi grottoes, also known as Chuanzihe grottoes, are located on the North Bank of chuanzi, Zhiluo Town, 65 km west of Fuxian County, Yan'an City. It was first built in the Daye period of Sui Dynasty (605-617). It was built intermittently in Tang, song, yuan and Ming Dynasties for more than 1000 years. Finally, it was built into seven caves, 70 meters long and arranged in one line. In front of the main tunnel, there is a three Bay two-story building with wooden structure. In front of the building is the temple, and a plaque of "Shihong Temple" is carved on the top of the gate. No.1 cave, the plane of the cave is rectangular, near the back wall and the left and right walls of the cave, there is a altar base. The front of the base removed is the statue of Sakya, Laozi and Confucius. There is an inscription on the wall of the cave during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1796-1820), which records that the cave is "three religions cave". Cave No.2, with a rectangular plan, has a statue of one Buddha and two disciples on the base of the altar. On the east wall of the cave, there is a niche with one Buddha and two Bodhisattvas carved inside. Beside the niche, there is an inscription, "in the second year of Kaibao of Song Dynasty, Li Tingbao made three Sakyamuni Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.". There is a statue inscription in the second year of Kaibao of Song Dynasty on the west wall, and a statue of Dharma protecting heavenly king is embossed on both sides of the cave entrance. Cave No. 3, with a rectangular plan, has two statues of one Buddha, two Bodhisattvas and two disciples on the inner base. On the back screen of Bodhisattvas on the east side, there is an inscription on the Bodhisattvas created by three people, including dunshiyuan in the first year of song Kaibao (968). There are two niches connected in the east wall. There are five Buddhas and Bodhisattvas inside. Next to them are the inscriptions of Zheng Junya's statue in the fifth year of Xiantong (864) of the Tang Dynasty, and one inscription of Chen Gong's statue in the third year of Xiantong (862). Cave 4, with a square plan, has a circular statue of Manjusri riding a lion on the central Buddhist altar, and a Kunlun slave taming a lion in front of the lion path. There are two niches on the two walls of the cave, with three statues. Next to the niches are three inscriptions on the statues of the first year of the late Zhou Xiande (954). On the left and right sides of the cave entrance, one statue of King Kong is embossed. Cave 5 has a rectangular plane. The structure of the cave is basically the same as that of caves 2 and 3. It is connected with cave 6 in the West. There are inscriptions of statues in the second year of Daye (606), Jinglong (707-709) and Zhenyuan (786). Cave 6 is the largest cave with the largest number of statues. In front of the cave, there is a two-story wooden hall with three bays. The plane of the cave is slightly square, with a width of 10.4 meters, a depth of 10.65 meters and a height of 5.35 meters. The center of the cave is carved with stone to form a base. Each corner of the base of the altar has a stone column connected to the top. The front of the base of the altar is a statue of one Buddha and two disciples. The Sakyamuni Buddha sits on the seat of shuyelian Xumi. The height of Fotong is 3.45 meters, of which the seat is 1.59 meters. The caisson on the top of the cave above Sakyamuni Buddha is ornate and engraved with the words "Sakyamuni Tathagata" and "Xiuhua support". On the left side of Sakyamuni's disciple, Kaya, and on the right side of Sakyamuni's disciple, Ananda. Among the stone pillars on the east side of the altar is Manjusri Bodhisattva, who sits on xumizuo, the waist of Yanglian, with a lion's head carved in the center. There are 3305 statues of Buddha, Avalokitesvara, arhat and Xiaoqian Buddha on the four walls of the stone pillars. The main statues are painted. The inscriptions in the grottoes include the inscriptions of the first year of Tang Zhen (785), the second year of Tang Zhen (786), the first year of Jin Huangtong (1141) and the second year of Jin Huangtong (1142). Cave No. 7 is a trapezoidal cave with 20 Buddha statues on the base of the inner altar, an octagonal caisson on the top of the cave, relief patterns of two dragons playing with pearls, and patterns of dragons, snakes, Phoenix and flowers and plants. The cave was excavated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Shihong Temple grottoes are famous for their age, scale, statues and carvings. Liu Ru, the governor of Yan'an in Jiajing of Ming Dynasty, wrote a poem praising: "the flying Pavilion supports the clouds, the clear spring encircles the forest", "the red cliff has double green waters, and the Buddhist chamber is leaning on Cangfeng.". Now it is a key cultural relic protection unit. Fuhuai highway can be directly connected to the front of the temple, and it is also an important tourist attraction in Yan'an.
