Chongqing Grand Theatre

Chongqing Grand Theatre, located in Wenhua Street East Road, Beicheng, Jiangbei District, Chongqing, started construction on January 28, 2007 and was officially completed on September 1, 2009. It is a large-scale social and cultural facility integrating opera, drama, concert performance, cultural and artistic exchange and multi-function.

Chongqing Grand Theatre is jointly designed by East China Design Institute, which designed the new CCTV building, and German design company. The design of the Grand Theatre is based on the theme of "solitary sail and distant shadow". The surface of the building is made of light green plexiglass. The shape of the whole Grand Theatre is similar to "glass spaceship", which means sailing from the past to the future.

The total investment of Chongqing Grand Theater is nearly 1.6 billion yuan, with a total construction area of 103000 square meters. The Grand Theater has seven floors above ground and two floors below ground, with three parts: Grand Theater, central theater and rehearsal hall. There are 2764 seats in the auditorium, 1826 in the Grand Theatre and 938 in the central theatre. There are 72 medium and high-grade dressing rooms and a VIP Hall.

In November 2011, he won the Luban Prize of China Construction Engineering from 2010 to 2011.

In January 2019, it was announced as "100 classic projects in 40 years of reform and opening up" by China Construction Association.

Evolution of construction

In 1980, Ye Yu, who was then a member of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, joined hands with Chongqing literary and art circles to call for the construction of Chongqing Grand Theater.

In 2002, at the sixth session of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, Ye Yu put forward the proposal of building Chongqing Grand Theater again, which was adopted by Chongqing municipal government.

On October 10, 2003, six design teams from France, Britain, Australia and China gathered to participate in the open solicitation meeting of architectural design scheme for Chongqing Grand Theatre.

In April 2004, the public publicity activity of Chongqing's top 10 social and cultural infrastructure projects including Chongqing Grand Theater was held in Jiefangbei Times Square.

On June 18, 2005, the foundation of Chongqing Grand Theater was laid.

On January 28, 2007, the main project of Chongqing Grand Theater started.

On February 26, 2008, Chongqing Grand Theater was capped. On May 4 of the same year, Bo Xilai made a special visit to the construction site of Chongqing Grand Theater.

On April 29, 2009, Chongqing Grand Theater gave a test performance.

On September 1 of the same year, Chongqing Grand Theater was completed.

Chongqing Grand Theater has a total construction area of 103307.10 square meters and a total investment of 1.6 billion yuan. The building has 7 floors above the ground and 2 floors below the ground. The facade and roof are glass walls. The building is in irregular shape. The auditorium is a traditional horseshoe shape, with the highest roof of about 64.06 meters. It is about 220 meters long from east to west and 110 meters wide from north to south. The Chongqing Grand Theater is divided into two theaters, the Grand Theater and the central theater. The stage is a "pin" shaped stage with a framed entrance. There are 1826 large theaters, including 938 and 300 rehearsal halls. A large chandelier with a diameter of 9 meters is hung on the top of the theater. The materials of the grand theater are super large, super grade and high-rise buildings, the seismic fortification category is class B, and the design service life is 100 years.

The Grand Theater has a total of 1826 audience seats, which can perform large-scale opera, dance, ballet, symphony, as well as large-scale comprehensive artistic performances. The entrance of the Grand Theater is 18 meters wide and 12 meters high, the main stage is 32 meters wide and 18 meters deep, the grating top is 37 meters high, and the music pool area is about 68.4 square meters. The main stage is equipped with six double-layer lifting platforms, and the rear stage is equipped with a 17 meter vehicle turntable. The main stage area has 61 electric booms, 4 light booms, 7.5kn electric boom load, 4.25kn light boom load on both sides, and 8kN in the middle.

 

Chinese Theater

There are 938 audience seats in the theatre, which can perform small and medium-sized songs and dances, opera, drama, vocal music, small orchestral music, chamber music and folk music. The entrance of the central theater is 15.8 meters wide and 8.5 meters high. The main stage is 15 meters wide and 15 meters deep. The gate top is 32 meters high. The orchestra area is about 44.8 square meters. The main stage is equipped with 5 single-layer lifting platforms, and the rear stage is equipped with a 14 meter diameter vehicle turntable. The main stage area has 56 electric booms and 3 light booms. The electric boom load is 5kn, the light boom load is 6kn on both sides and 8kN in the middle.

 

Exhibition Hall

The exhibition hall is in the shape of "I", which is composed of an 800 square meter sunken main exhibition hall, two 1000 square meter side exhibition halls and a 230 square meter conference hall. It mainly undertakes diversified exhibitions, exhibitions, cold dinners, cocktail parties, evening banquets and other activities related to art and culture.

 

Conference hall

In order to give full play to the functions of the exhibition hall, a conference hall is set up beside the exhibition hall. In the conference room with all glass exterior wall, it can cooperate with the exhibition for exhibition publicity, lectures, negotiations, news release and other activities.

 

Architectural features

The building of Chongqing Grand Theater is irregular in shape, with a maximum of about 60 meters, a length of about 200 meters from east to west, and a width of about 100 meters from south to north. The facade and roof structure of the Grand Theater will adopt double-layer ventilation glass curtain wall system, which is composed of 11 angular "stones". The outer wall of Chongqing Grand Theater adopts emerald color, and the structure adopts double-layer ventilation glass curtain wall system. When the strong light shines on the outer layer of glass, the air between the two layers of glass becomes hot and rushes out from the top. In this way, it can not only make the wall beautiful, but also effectively relieve the overheating of the inner layer. Because the outer glass wall is transparent inside, the grand theater looks like a transparent and hot crystal ball from the outside at night.

On January 2, 2015, the new year classic concert of Strauss Orchestra in Vienna was performed in Chongqing Grand Theatre.

From January 7 to January 8, 2015, the classic Russian Ballet Swan Lake was performed in Chongqing Grand Theater.

From January 13 to January 14, 2015, "back in time" classic film music tour was performed in Chongqing Grand Theater.

On January 18, 2015, Bai Xianyong's youth version of Kunqu Opera "Romance of the west chamber · Hongniang" was performed in Chongqing Grand Theater.

On January 25, 2015, the large-scale tap dance party "flame dance" was performed in Chongqing Grand Theater.
