Introduction
At the end of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty, most of the buildings were destroyed because of the war, only the east hall was left. In 1987, the government funded the maintenance of the house and opened it to the public; in 1997, the government funded the excavation and restoration of "Zhuangyuan bridge", banyuechi and its gatehouse. Its magnificent momentum, unique style and exquisite craftsmanship all show the splendor of the former poetic family.
Wu Changshuo's former residence (East Hall) is a two in three two story house with brick and wood structure. On the lintel, "Wu Changshuo's former residence" is a glittering five gold characters written by Wang Gezhen, a calligrapher and painter.
Qianjin Pingwu is the exhibition hall of Wu's historical relics. It displays the Wu's lineage map and the tombstone of "Wu's father and son's four Jinshi" unearthed during the cultural revolution period, which reflects the development of Wu's family since it moved to Zhejiang in the Southern Song Dynasty. Across the patio is the main building. On the left is Wu Changshuo's parents' bedroom. A century and a half ago, an art giant was born here. Later, he galloped like a rafter, shining brightly in the starry sky of art.
The hall in the middle is a typical Chinese living room with a picture of Wisteria hanging on it. It was written by Wu Changshuo's grandson and Shanghai calligrapher and painter Wu Changye. On both sides is a couplet written by Yu Youren, a great calligrapher in the period of the Republic of China, and by Wu Min, Wu Changshuo's grandson: "poetry, calligraphy and painting, printing people again, flying all over the world; since the yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and in the Republic of China, there have been hundreds of romantic artists.".
On the second floor, to the East is Wu Changshuo's study. The narrow window, simple desk, homemade carving knife and penholder and other furnishings show that this is the anchor of the art giant Yihai boating! The "photo room" at the west end of the second floor shows the prosperity of the Wu family and the life track of Wu Changshuo.
Since the reform and opening up, the party and the government have attached great importance to the restoration of Wu Changshuo's former residence, which has been gradually restored with funding year after year. In 1997, the plan of "restoration project of Wu Changshuo's former residence (Series)" was formulated; in 2002, 26 houses inside and outside the former residence were relocated with an investment of more than 2 million yuan, which laid a solid foundation for the implementation of the plan. Wu Changshuo's former residence has now become an important window for foreign cultural exchanges in Anji County.
