Huazhong University of Technology (the predecessor of Huazhong University of Technology)
Huazhong University of technology, formerly directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, formerly known as Huazhong Institute of technology, which was established by the former Ministry of higher education in 1952.
In November 1952, the culture and Education Committee of the Central South Administrative Committee held a higher education planning meeting and decided to build three new engineering colleges in Wuhan: Huazhong Institute of machinery, Central South Institute of power and Central South Institute of water conservancy.
In January 1953, the Ministry of education of the Central South Administrative Committee issued a document to formally establish the Planning Committee for the joint establishment of the three academies, with Professor Zha Qian of Wuhan University as the chairman.
In May 1953, according to the instruction of Mao Zedong, the Ministry of higher education of the people's Republic of China decided to merge Huazhong Institute of machinery and Zhongnan Institute of power into one school, abolish the establishment of Zhongnan Institute of power, and name it Huazhong Institute of technology. It is composed of the mechanical department and the electrical Department of four universities, including Wuhan University, Hunan University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University, as well as the power part of the mechanical department and the electrical Department of South China Institute of technology. It is equipped with mechanical manufacturing engineering, metal cutting technology and tools, automobile, internal combustion engine, hydraulic power plant and thermal power plant At the same time, the Preparatory Committee of Huazhong Institute of technology was established, with Cha Qian as the director of the Preparatory Committee and Liu qiancai and Zhu Jiusi as the deputy directors.
On September 11, 1953, the construction of the school started at the southern foot of Yujiashan mountain in Wuchang. On October 15 of the same year, the founding meeting and opening ceremony of Huazhong Institute of technology were held in Wuchang.
In the middle of August 1954, the teachers, students and staff of the University joined hands with Yujiashan in Wuchang and completed the centralized relocation work. In 1955, the State Council appointed Professor Zha Qian as the first president of Huazhong Institute of technology.
In September 1955, he majored in automobile and went to Changchun College of automobile and Tractor Engineering (former Jilin University of technology and one of the predecessors of Jilin University).
In 1957, the major of automobile and internal combustion engine was restored.
In 1958, the major of automobile, tractor and internal combustion engine was adjusted to the newly established Wuhan Institute of Technology (one of the predecessor of Wuhan University of Technology).
In 1960, it was designated as a national key university. Since 1961, graduate students have been recruited.
From 1966 to 1976, due to the efforts of Liu Kunshan, commander of the military propaganda team, and Zhu Jiusi, vice president of the school in the early period of the "Cultural Revolution", three "no" were realized: the main leaders of the school did not change, the teaching staff did not disperse, the scientific research and teaching equipment did not abuse, and the teachers and cadres were less injured.
In 1971, Wuhan Institute of machinery was closed down, and some specialties and more than 300 staff were merged into Huazhong Institute of technology.
From 1972 to 1979, we received more than 600 experts and professors from all over the country.
In 1978, after the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, the school entered a new stage of vigorous development.
At the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s, a number of technology disciplines with broad development prospects, such as laser technology, computer science and technology, information engineering, microwave technology, were established.
In 1979, the first liberal arts research institution, the Chinese Language Institute, was established.
In 1984, 45 undergraduate majors including science, arts, engineering and management were set up, forming the basic outline of a new comprehensive university and initially realizing the goal of comprehensive development based on engineering and combining science, engineering, arts and management.
In 1978, the recruitment of graduate students was resumed. In that year, 181 graduate students were recruited.
In 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.
In April 1984, the first batch of graduate schools (22 in total) were set up.
