The origin of the name
"Boao" means abundant (abundant) and large (large) fish. In popular language, it means "more fish and more fat fish".
Boao was first named as a "Pu". Boao Pu is a PU with abundant fish. The most basic social consciousness and desire of the dans is to have a good living environment with "more fish and more fat fish".
Historical evolution
As early as the Song Dynasty, there were dans living and reproducing in Boao. In the first year of Tiansheng of Song Dynasty (1023), the dans raised money to build Sanjiang temple in Boao. At this time, there were a certain number and scale of dans living here.
Boao town is named after Boao port. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was called Boao Pu Township, and in the late Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Boao township.
The Qing Dynasty inherited the Ming system, and it was named until the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929).
In 1930, Boao township was abolished and put under the jurisdiction of Shoushan town of Lehui county.
In July 1950, Boao was under the jurisdiction of the Second District of lohui county (Lecheng). In June 1955, Boao township was established under the jurisdiction of Lecheng district. In October 1958, Boao township was abolished and put under the jurisdiction of Chaoyang commune. On December 1, 1958, Yuehui county and Qiongdong County merged into Qionghai county. In March 1961, Boao commune was set up from Chaoyang commune.
In September 1983, it was renamed Boao District, and has jurisdiction over six townships, including Boao, Donghai, Dongyu, Tianyong, Zhulian and chaolie. In 1987, Boao district was changed into Boao Town, and six townships were changed into six administrative villages.
In 2003, the four administrative villages of jiuqujiang Township, including Beishan, Beian, shamei and Peilan, were abolished and merged with Chaoyang Township and Boao town to establish Boao town. The town government was stationed in the former Boao town.
