Chengdu University is the only full-time regular undergraduate college sponsored by Chengdu Municipal People's government. It is a comprehensive university with the school running system of "jointly built by provinces and cities and city oriented". Founded in 1978, the university is called "Chengdu University". In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of education, it was restored to an ordinary undergraduate university, temporarily renamed as "Chengdu University", and retained the name of "Chengdu University".
