Guangzhou Railway Vocational and technical college was established in June 2000 and officially transferred to Guangzhou municipal government by Guangzhou Railway (Group) Company in September 2004. It is the only full-time ordinary higher vocational college in Guangdong Province that focuses on cultivating special professionals such as rail transit and railway. It passed the national acceptance in February 2016 and officially became the "national backbone Higher Vocational College".

The college is located in the "Shimen huizhao" scenic spot, one of the eight scenic spots of Guangzhou's original Yangcheng city. There are Shimen, Yangcheng, Zhixin south campus, Chaoyang training center and Huadu engineering learning demonstration park. The college covers 314.86 mu of land and 160000 square meters of school buildings. At present, there are 8038 full-time ordinary higher vocational students. There are nine teaching departments (departments) including the school of rail transit, the school of machinery and electronics, the school of transportation and logistics management, the Department of economic management, the Department of information engineering, the Department of applied foreign languages, the Department of basic courses, the Department of Ideological and political education, and the school of continuing education, 31 specialties, such as urban rail transit vehicles, electrified railway technology, urban rail transit operation management, numerical control technology, applied electronic technology, computer application technology, foreign tourism, have been set up, and 31 professional steering committees have been set up with the participation of well-known experts from industry enterprises.

The college has excellent conditions and perfect infrastructure. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 166.3 million yuan, with a collection of more than 500000 books. There are 111 professional training rooms such as subway vehicle driving simulation center, CNC machining center, SMT production line, etc. inside the school, and 97 training bases such as Huadu rolling stock factory, Guangzhou Metro Corporation, Guangzhou railway station, etc. outside the school. Among the full-time teachers, 25.53% have senior professional titles, 91.39% have "double qualification" teachers, and a large number of professional and technical personnel and skilled craftsmen have been employed from enterprises as part-time teachers and internship instructors.

In 2015, the college enrolled students from 16 provinces (regions) including Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shanxi, Henan, Anhui, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan. 93.7% of the graduates obtained relevant professional qualification certificate, and 26.9% obtained Advanced Certificate. In 2012, the initial employment rate reached 99.01%, in 2013, 98.96%, and in 2014, 99.60%, ranking in the forefront of the province. Due to the outstanding achievements and distinctive characteristics of graduates' employment in recent years, the college has been rated as "advanced collective of graduates' employment in Guangdong Province" and "National Model School of Higher Vocational Colleges' employment competitiveness in 2014". Among the graduates, more than 30 have served as station masters in Guangzhou Metro. Long Wei, the chief driver of Guangzhou Metro, Chen Binggen, the first "harmony" high-speed EMU driver of Guangzhou Railway Group, and Xu Zhibiao, the winner of the National May 1st Labor Medal in 2014, are all graduates of our college. Xu manling, who was employed in MTR (Shenzhen) Company in 2007, was promoted to station director in 2008. Since 2007, students have won more than 300 awards in various national, provincial and municipal competitions. Among them, the final students of the fifth "Higher Education Cup" national oral English competition in Guangdong won the special prize (the highest prize); In 2008, our college won the highest group award in Guangdong selection competition of national vocational college skills competition. In the third Guangdong selection competition of national numerical control skills competition, our students won the first place in numerical control lathe group. The college gives full play to the dual advantages of industry education background and government education, adheres to the school running concept of "quality based school, talent based school, characteristic based school, culture based school", takes the road of characteristic based school, quality based school and advantage based school, cultivates high-quality skilled talents with noble morality, exquisite skills and innovation, and explores and practices the talent training mode of "integration of production and education, integrating learning with work". With Guangzhou Railway Group, Guangzhou Metro, Shenzhen Metro, Hong Kong Railway (Shenzhen) company, Yuancheng logistics, Guangzhou tower and other well-known enterprises to jointly develop talent training programs, take the lead in large-scale "2 + 1 order" training, and form a talent training mechanism connecting schools and enterprises, majors and occupations, students and posts. In 2014, 1356 students were trained by order.

The University adheres to the principle of open education and pays attention to foreign exchange and cooperation. It has successively carried out cooperation and exchanges with Hong Kong Metro Corporation, Nanyang Polytechnic of Singapore, nsetafe Polytechnic of Sydney, Australia, United Polytechnic of beipa, New Zealand and other similar overseas colleges; signed counterpart exchange agreements with Fuzhou Polytechnic, Urumqi Polytechnic University, Jiangmen Polytechnic and other higher vocational colleges inside and outside the province to seek common development.

The college has established Guangzhou "double transfer" designated training institution, national vocational skill appraisal institute and railway special type of work vocational skill appraisal station, which can provide 89 types of work / certificate of primary, middle, senior and special operation appraisal, of which 43 types of work can carry out technician and senior technician appraisal service. Every year, more than 10000 person times of on-the-job training, skill appraisal and certification, and social oriented training are carried out for metro, state railway and other related industries and enterprises. It has become an important application-oriented talent training base for rail transit enterprises in southern China.

At present, the college is actively implementing the decision of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, speeding up the construction of the new campus, and making unremitting efforts to build a national backbone and provincial demonstrative higher vocational college with distinctive rail transit characteristics, first-class and high level in China.
