Tibet Institute for nationalities is located in the ancient capital of Xianyang, on the Bank of the Weihe River. It is a university for Nationalities in the interior of Tibet Autonomous Region. She is the earliest institution of higher learning in Tibet. Its predecessor is Tibet public school, which was founded in 1958. In 1965, with the approval of the State Council, it was changed into Tibet Institute for nationalities. The motto of the college is "patriotism, rejuvenation of Tibet, devotion to learning and devotion to work".
Since its establishment 51 years ago, Tibet Institute for nationalities has conscientiously implemented the party's education policy, continuously improved the quality of education and the efficiency of running a school, and made great progress in the school. Today's Tibet Institute for nationalities has a strong strength in running a school, and has developed into a modern multi-disciplinary institution of higher learning that focuses on arts and combines arts, science, economics, law, management and education. At present, there are six graduate programs in ethnology, minority economy, Chinese Philosophy (Tibetan religious direction), ancient Chinese literature, literature and art, and special history, including Chinese language and literature, journalism, secretary, ideological and political education, English, philosophy, law, administration, ethnology, archives, accounting, statistics, finance, physical education, information management and information system 31 undergraduate majors, such as accounting computerization, accounting management, financial accounting, secretary and office automation, advertising planning and production, tourism and hotel management, foreign secretary and public relations, higher vocational nursing and so on. At present, there are more than 10200 full-time students on campus, including nearly 50% of Tibetan students.
The college has a team of teachers and workers who are loyal to the party's national education cause and have a higher overall level. There are 740 teaching staff (excluding affiliated units) and 61 Tibetan teaching staff, including more than 500 professional and technical personnel, including 20 professors and 119 associate professors. The college has made fruitful achievements in teaching and scientific research. Dozens of achievements have won national and provincial (District) awards. Many research fields are in the leading position in the region and even in China. Tibetan studies have gained a good reputation in the academic circles at home and abroad. Two academic journals, Journal of Tibet Institute for Nationalities and Research on Higher Education in Tibet, have been published.
The college has good conditions for running a school, relatively complete teaching facilities and advanced teaching means. It has a library with a collection of more than 1 million books, a teaching hospital with complete functions, and 32 professional laboratories in 10 categories. The college covers an area of more than 630 mu, the campus environment is elegant, green trees, beautiful scenery, is an ideal place for students to learn scientific and cultural knowledge.
Over the past 50 years, with the cordial care of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and with the selfless assistance of the people of the whole country, the Tibet Institute for nationalities has adhered to the socialist orientation of running a school, the tenet of running a school facing Tibet and serving Tibet, and has cultivated more than 30000 political cadres and professional and technical talents with its distinctive school running characteristics and excellent school spirit and study style. Many of them have become leading cadres at the regional, prefectural and county levels in the Tibet Autonomous Region, and a considerable number of them have grown into professional and technical backbones and senior talents in all walks of life in Tibet, making indelible contributions to the socialist revolution and construction in Tibet. On October 5, 2008, the 50th anniversary celebration meeting was held. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the state and chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau and State Councilor of the Central Committee, sent congratulatory letters to express warm congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the college. In his congratulatory letter, General Secretary Hu Jintao highly summarized and affirmed the important contributions made by the college to Tibet's economic development and social progress in the past 50 years. He hoped that the college would fully implement the spirit of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, carry forward the fine tradition, keep up with the pace of the times, actively explore the laws of ethnic education, continuously improve the level of teaching management, and better play the role of the cadre training base in Tibet And make new and greater contributions to promoting Tibet's economic and social development, improving the lives of people of all ethnic groups in Tibet, and promoting Tibet's stability and unity.
In March 2009, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region signed an agreement in Beijing to jointly build Tibet Institute for nationalities, which provides a broader platform and opportunities for the development of the Institute. At present, Tibet University for nationalities is earnestly studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Hu Jintao and Comrade Liu Yandong's congratulatory letter.
