Tongji University

Tongji University is a key university directly under the Ministry of education. Founded in 1907, she was a German medical school founded by German doctors in Shanghai in the early days. Her name "Tongji" means cooperation and mutual aid. In 1912, an engineering school was set up. In 1923, it was approved to be renamed as a university. In 1927, it was officially designated as the national Tongji University. During the Anti Japanese War, he moved to Sichuan via Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Yunnan. In 1946, he moved back to Shanghai and developed into a comprehensive university famous for its five colleges of science, engineering, medicine, arts and law at home and abroad. After the adjustment of departments in 1952, Tongji University became the largest engineering university with the most complete specialties in the field of civil engineering and architecture in China. In 1978, with the approval of the central government, the exchange with Germany was resumed. Under the leadership of President Li Guohao, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "two transformations" were implemented, that is, the transformation from a science and Engineering University with civil engineering as the main subject to a multidisciplinary university with science and engineering as the main subject, and the transformation from a domestic ordinary university to an international university as one of the "windows" of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries It is a multidisciplinary university with the characteristics of economics, management, literature and law. In 1995, it was jointly built by the Ministry of education and Shanghai Municipality. In 1996, it was incorporated into the former Shanghai Institute of urban construction and Shanghai Institute of building materials industry, which was praised by the leaders of the State Council as the "Tongji mode" in the system reform of colleges and universities. In April 2000, it merged with Shanghai Railway University to form a new Tongji University. At present, it is a comprehensive university with nine disciplines of science, engineering, medicine, arts, law, philosophy, economics, management and education. As a research-oriented university, the university is one of the first batch of universities approved by the State Council to establish a graduate school; as a national key university, the university is listed in the "211 Project" funded by the state finance and the high-level universities jointly built by the national education revitalization action plan and local key universities.

Tongji University now has architecture and urban planning, civil engineering, economy and management, electronic and information engineering, environmental science and engineering, foreign languages, humanities, law and politics, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, medicine, science, transportation, automobile, ocean and earth science, life science and technology, aerospace and mechanics, communication and art, women's college and software science Besides, there are also schools of continuing education, higher technology, vocational and technical education, international cultural exchange, online education, automobile marketing and film, etc. there are also schools of China and Germany that are approved by the Chinese and German governments to cooperate in training master's degree students, and schools of China and France Engineering and management that are jointly organized with the Paris University of science and technology. At present, the university has 82 undergraduate majors, 218 master's degree programs, 8 master's degree authorized programs, 94 doctor's degree authorized programs, 16 postdoctoral mobile stations, nearly 40000 full-time students, and more than 4200 teaching and research personnel, including 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, more than 830 teachers with senior titles and more than 1470 associate professors with senior titles. As one of the important national research centers, the university has 26 national and provincial key laboratories and engineering research centers. The school also has six affiliated hospitals and three affiliated schools.

The campus of Tongji University covers an area of more than 4000 mu and is divided into four campuses. Siping Road Campus is located in Siping Road, Shanghai; Huxi campus is located in Zhennan Road, Shanghai; Hubei campus is located in Gonghexin Road, Shanghai; and Jiading campus is located in Anting Shanghai International Automobile City.
