Weng Zesheng
Weng Zesheng (1903-1939) was born in Taipei, Taiwan. His ancestral home is Tongan, Fujian. In October 1921, he joined the Taiwan Cultural Association while studying in Taipei Industrial school, and actively participated in the Anti Japanese patriotic movement. Later, he went to Jimei Middle School in Xiamen, accepted Marxism and socialism, and became one of the earliest socialist propagandists in Taiwan.
Life of the characters
During his study in Jimei Middle School, he went back to Taipei to organize the Taipei Youth Association against Japanese colonial rule. He entered Shanghai University in the summer of 1924. He took part in the May 30th Movement in 1925. He joined the Communist Party of China in the same year. At the end of 1926, he returned to Xiamen to engage in revolutionary activities. In February 1927, he served as the dean of Zhangzhou Peasant Movement Institute. In the same year, after the "April 12" counter revolutionary coup, he went to Shanghai to work underground. On April 14, 1928, he took part in liaison with Taiwan Communist Party members and established the Taiwan local organization of the Communist Party of China. After 1932, he served as Secretary General of the all China Federation of trade unions. On March 4, 1933, he was arrested in Shanghai, handed over to the Japanese government and imprisoned in a Japanese prison. In prison, he was tortured and unyielding. On March 1, 1939, because of long-term torture, his life was at stake. The prison authorities immediately informed his relatives in Taiwan to "bail for medical treatment". He died soon. He was 36 years old.
