Wu County
Wu County refers to Wushan County in Chongqing today, which was called Wu County in ancient times. It is located near the wuxia gorge of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.
Historical evolution
Wushan County in Chongqing today was named Wuxian County before Sui Dynasty. Before Jin Dynasty, the county government was located in the north of Wuxian county.

During the Warring States period, the county belonged to Wu County of Chu state. In the 30th year of emperor Zhaoxiang of Qin Dynasty (277 BC), Wu County was established.

In the 15th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (210 A.D.), Wu County was set up as Beijing County.

In the second year of Zhangwu (222 A.D.) of the Shuhan Dynasty, the county belongs to Sunwu Yidu county.
In the second year of Taihe (AD 228), Emperor Wei Ming divided Xincheng County into Wuxian County of Shangyong county. After the war of Shu Wu juiting, Yidu County, which was occupied by Sun Wu, also had Wu County, which was separated from Cao Wei, but it did not take the north and South as the identification. In 280 ad, Emperor Wu of the Jin Dynasty Pingwu, a family from the north and the south, began in Wu County. In the north, the word "Bei" was added to distinguish it from the south. However, the location of Wu County in the north of Shangyong county remains to be studied.
In the third year of Yong'an (260 A.D.), the Wu Lord Sun Xiu set up Jianping County to govern Wu County.

In 268 ad, Wu County was subordinate to Badong County.
Sui Dynasty
Sui kaihuang three years (AD 583) renamed Wushan County, belongs to Jianping County. Wushan is located in the east of the county, also known as Wuxia. It is named after Wu Xian (the imperial doctor of Emperor Yao) in the ancient Tang Dynasty.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China
On October 2, 1949, the day after the founding of new China, Wushan County was liberated. On December 17 of the same year, the people's Government of Wushan County, Sichuan Province was established.
In March 1951, Tonggu township of Jianshi County in Hubei Province was classified as Guandu District of Wushan County.
In March 1961, the mountainous area of 1784.5 Mu and paddy field of 342.3 Mu belonging to the three brigades of Shang'an, Xia'an and Shuanghe of Longxi commune were divided into Wuxi County, forming Wushan County.
On June 28, 1997, Wushan County was transferred to Chongqing Municipality.
