Lu fayan
Lu fayan (562 -?) He was born in Linzhang County of Wei county (now Linzhang County of Hebei Province) and a phonologist of Sui Dynasty. Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty was named chengfenglang at that time. Because his father Shuang was convicted, he was removed from his name. The study of Jingyun. Qieyun, compiled by Liu Zhen and other scholars, is an important document of Chinese rhymes, which is the basis for the compilation of rhyme books in Tang and Song dynasties. This book was completed, and the rhyme books of the Six Dynasties gradually died. The original books are lost. There are three kinds of remnant books in Dunhuang documents, about three-quarters of the original books.
Concentrate on learning
In the early years of Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty, he discussed phonology with Liu Zhen, Xiao Gai, Yan Zhitui, Lu Sidao, Li Ruo, Xin Deyuan, Xue Daoheng, Wei Yanyuan and other eight people. They think that the rhyme books formed by Lu Jing in the Western Jin Dynasty are lack of standard and have their own mistakes. According to the main points of the discussion, Lu fayan compiled five volumes of Qieyun in the first year of Renshou (601). The Lu family was not included in the Sui Dynasty, so Lu fayan's works were only private works. But it was very popular in the Tang Dynasty, because his books absorbed the advantages of the previous rhyme books. Since the publication of Qieyun, all the rhyme books in the six dynasties have gradually disappeared. Qieyun has become the basis for the study of ancient Chinese phonology and poetry. It is also an important Chinese reference book. Tang Yun written by sun she of Tang Dynasty, Guangyun written by Chen Pengnian of Song Dynasty and other rhyme books are all based on Qieyun. The original book has been lost. Dunhuang has three kinds of fragmentary books, which complement each other and make up about three fourths of the original books. Qieyun can catch up with the ancient Chinese and enlighten the Chinese of Tang and Song dynasties. Because Qieyun represents the rules and standards of Chinese phonetics research, Qieyun has become the first classic of Chinese phonology. Mastering the phonology of Qieyun is the basis of understanding and studying the history of phonetics.
Lu fayan was not successful in his official career, but his devotion to learning made him immortal in the history of Chinese phonetics.
Local Records
Lu fayan, born in 562 A.D. in Baoding, Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, is a famous phonologist in China. His grandfather Lu gaizhi was the governor of Huozhou in the Northern Qi Dynasty. Lu Shuang, his father, was once the Minister of the Northern Qi Dynasty. After the Northern Qi Dynasty was destroyed, he was summoned to pass for Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, and was granted the title of sergeant xuanna. Yang Jian, Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, accepted Zen Buddhism and moved to the crown prince to wash horses. Influenced by his father, fayan studied hard and learned a lot, especially in phonology.
In the early years of the Sui Dynasty, he was the chengfenglang of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty. Later, he was removed because of his father's crime. From then on, he devoted himself to the study of phonology and the compilation of rhyme books. In the first year of Renshou (601) of Sui Dynasty, Qieyun was written in five volumes.
Qieyun contains 12158 Chinese characters, which are divided into 193 rhymes. There are 54 rhymes in Ping Sheng, 51 rhymes in Shang Sheng, 56 rhymes in Qu Sheng and 32 rhymes in Ru Sheng. On the basis of studying predecessors' rhyme books, he made them more complete and systematic. At that time, it was said that the ode to Qieyun was "a combination of time and custom, which was regarded as a canon". Qieyun is the most perfect, detailed and accurate rhyme book in the history of rhyme books before Sui Dynasty.
Qieyun is not only of reference value to the examination of pronunciation and rhyme, but also of great material value to the study of Chinese phonetic history. Qieyun is based on the phonetics of Luoyang at that time, and it is composed of ancient and other dialects. It can be used to study ancient Chinese pronunciation and dialects. After Qieyun was written, the rhyme books of the Six Dynasties gradually died. Most rhyme books in Tang and Song dynasties are based on this.
The original book Qieyun has been lost in the long-term circulation. Guangyun, which was revised by Chen Pengnian in Song Dynasty, was based on Qieyun. Therefore, the research results of Qieyun are preserved by Guangyun.
