The concepts of "China" and "East Asia", which we are used to today, are very recent products. The former was gradually shaped in the Qing Dynasty, while the latter was only well known in the past 130 years. The Eurasian continent is clearly a geographical plate, but it is abruptly divided into "Europe" and "Asia". Asia means Asia, and it has a European perspective. In the 16th century, missionaries brought the word "Asia", but East Asians gradually accepted this identity tag, which began in 1885 when Fukuzawa Yukichi published his "on leaving Asia". This book is about the history of East Asia's changes, turbulence, collision, development and mutual shaping since the 16th century. why do we always have a sense of deja vu and inaccessibility to Japan and South Korea separated by a river? The East Asian world we live in and think we are familiar with is full of myths and prejudices, which need to be rediscovered and recognized. It is from a global and continuous perspective that this book explores how the modern world history since the 16th century, rather than the history of a certain country in China, Japan and South Korea, has unfolded in East Asia. The dusty past can reappear. Through this book, we can find that the more than 70 years of North South confrontation on the Korean Peninsula and the complex love and hatred between China, Japan, North Korea and South Korea are actually the "heritage" scattered on the road of East Asian modernization. Although history does not directly provide answers for today, the experience of East Asia described in this book helps us to get rid of the fog of reality, rebuild common sense, and see the essence through phenomena in the changing situation at home and abroad.
