academic exchange
Since the reform and opening up, we have actively carried out academic exchanges with foreign countries. In 1978, we took part in a delegation organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to study higher education and scientific research in Japan. In 1981, we led a delegation to Australia to study higher education. In 1983, we led a delegation to the West Berlin University of technology to study. In 1984, at the invitation of the American Academy of Sciences, we went to New York Polytechnic University and Akron university to give lectures After that, he went to the United States, Japan and other countries to investigate and make academic reports.
educational work
Before 1961, Professor Yang Shilin mainly taught organic chemistry and compiled the first batch of engineering organic chemistry textbooks in China. Later, he turned to polymer chemistry, offering polymer chemistry, stereochemistry, selected theory of Polymer Chemistry (postgraduate course) and other courses. His educational thought is mainly the materialist thought that practice is the only standard to test truth. He thinks that there is only one real theory, that is, to truly reflect the essence of objective things, which is also what people strive for, but in chemistry, the existing theories do not fully reflect the essential characteristics of objective things, so he repeatedly stressed that learning theory must not copy the rigid set, but based on experimental facts. When he was teaching theoretical problems, he always explained them in connection with the experimental facts, and never talked about them empty. In the teaching method, it adopts the method of combining theory with practice and gradually deepening. For example, when teaching a certain class of compounds, first let the students have a general understanding of this class of compounds, then introduce their synthesis methods, link up various related chemical reactions, and then explain the relationship between their structure and properties, and relate to the practical application of this class of compounds. His teaching is characterized by concise content, clear organization, vivid language and practical connection. People who have heard Yang Shilin's lectures all have this feeling, that is, after two classes, Yang Shilin doesn't seem to have much to talk about, but when he looks at the handouts and books, he is startled that there are too many contents. It can be seen that the art taught by Yang Shilin is very high. Therefore, Yang Shilin has always enjoyed a high reputation in the main courses of the school.
In 1960, Yang Shilin began to recruit postgraduates. In 1984, he was a doctoral supervisor. He paid attention to the cultivation of their self-study ability and independent working ability. He regularly organized seminars. The postgraduates reported the progress of their work and learned from literature reading to inspire their new ideas. His 18 master's and 6 doctoral students have played a key role, and some have grown into academic leaders.
Discipline development
Since the 1980s, functional polymers have flourished on the basis of polymer synthesis, which has become a hot research topic all over the world, especially from the height of molecular design to guide the synthesis of functional polymers, in order to obtain the desired performance, which has become a hot front topic in chemistry and physics, and also a subject to be solved in the interdisciplinary field of chemistry and physics. Yang Shilin has been paying close attention to this development trend, focusing on the research and development of photoconductive materials, which are the key materials for photocopiers, high-speed computers and solar cells. In 1986, he resolutely organized the forces in polymer chemistry, polymer physics, solid-state physics, electronics, optics, etc., and carried out the Research on organic polymer photoconductive materials. Yang Shilin and his research group have done a lot of work in the development of organic polymer photoconductive materials and photoconductive mechanism, and made a breakthrough. In 1988, on the basis of a large number of experimental facts of the scientific research group, Yang Shilin proposed for the first time at the International Symposium on copying technology held in Tokyo, Japan that the blending and compounding technology of phthalocyanine compounds is one of the effective ways to improve the photoconductivity of phthalocyanine compounds, which has attracted the attention of scholars at home and abroad. Scholars from nine countries have written for papers. Scholars at home and abroad think that the photoconductivity mechanism of organic solids is much more complex than that of inorganic solids, but so far there is no unified theoretical model, which is of great interest to scholars all over the world, but the progress is slow. Dare to carry out international competition and become one of the most advanced in the world? It has become an urgent problem for Yang Shilin and his research group. Their working conditions are worse than those of foreign countries, and their manpower, financial resources and equipment are far behind those of foreign countries. However, they adopted the existing modern physical analysis equipment of our university, and through repeated experimental research, they gave full play to the advantages of interdisciplinary. For the first time, they put forward the theoretical model that "the photoelectron process in phthalocyanine solid is an incomplete electron transfer process". At the same time, it has achieved gratifying results in the practical application. So it has reached the international advanced level in some fields of organic photoconductive materials.
Yang Shilin is upright, sincere, neither fame nor profit. He has worked hard in teaching and scientific research for most of his life. His strict scientific attitude enjoys a high reputation in the domestic chemical industry. He does not strive for fame and profit, does not boast about his achievements, and opposes the bad style of exaggeration. When interviewed by reporters, he opposes
