Deng long, the stronghold leader of Erlong mountain, was formerly the abbot of Baozhu temple in Erlong mountain, nicknamed "golden eye tiger". He didn't abide by the rules and regulations, led the monks to raise their hair and return to the common customs, gathered the local ruffians and thieves, gathered four or five hundred people to occupy Erlong mountain, plundered houses, cut paths and plundered property. In order to prevent the government from seizing them, they built a stronghold in Erlong mountain to defend themselves. There were three passes at the foot of the mountain, with wooden guns and stones at the top and deer stockade all around.
When flower monk Lu Zhishen was introduced by Zhang Qing and sun erniang to join Deng long, Deng long and others were jealous and refused to accept him. Lu Zhishen wants to fight with Deng long. Deng long knew that he couldn't fight, so he ordered people to hold the three gates and shut the door. Lu Zhishen was very helpless. After sipping meat and getting drunk, he took a rest in the woods in the south of Panlong mountain and beside the river. It happens that Yang Zhi, a green faced beast, is lost in Qingzhou, where he wanders. After they meet and fight, they exchange their names. Only then can they know what happened and make friends. Later, under the planning of Cao Zheng, the owner of the hotel, he pretended to bind Lu Zhishen and sent him to Erlong mountain to open the gate of the village. Together with Yang Zhi, he went to the ancient temple of Baozhu temple to kill Deng long and subdue the bandits. Cao Zheng ordered people to carry Deng Long's body to the back of the mountain, burn it and bury it. There are still ancient pines. There is a poem in Outlaws of the Marsh: "the ancient temple is quiet and green, and Deng long is powerful and unrestrained. It's more sad to cut down the grass and root of the monk who was born with divine power. " After Lu Zhishen and Yang Zhi occupied Erlong mountain, they still made a living by cutting and plundering. Shortly after, Wu Song, the traveler, was introduced by Zhang Qing to join Erlong mountain. Later, Shi en, Cao Zheng, Zhang Qing and sun Er Niang all went to Erlong mountain.
In the New Water Margin TV play, Lu Zhishen breaks the rope and fights with a piece of wood that has been torn into two parts. He smashes the wood tied by his left hand into Deng Long's heart and kills him. But in the original text of Water Margin, when Deng long was preparing to cook with Lu Zhishen, Lu Zhishen broke away from the rope and smashed a Zen stick on Deng Long's head.
