Deng Yaping
Deng Yaping, born in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province on February 6, 1973, is the founder of Henan Deng Yaping sports industry investment fund. She is a former Chinese woman table tennis player, world champion, Olympic champion and Grand Slam winner.
When she was 5 years old, Deng Yaping began to play table tennis. In 1988, she officially entered the national team. In 1989, at the age of 16, Deng Yaping won the women's Doubles Championship in the World Table Tennis Championships for the first time. In 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, as the absolute main force of the Chinese team, won two gold medals in women's singles and doubles. In the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, Deng Yaping copied the miracle of four years ago and became the first person to win four Olympic gold medals in Chinese Olympic history. In September 1998, Deng Yaping officially announced her retirement. Deng Yaping has won 18 World Championships in her 14 years of sports career. She has been ranked first in the world for eight consecutive years and is the longest time female athlete in the history of table tennis. In September 2010, Deng Yaping was appointed Deputy Secretary General and general manager of people's daily.
On June 9, 2016, Deng Yaping announced that she would resign from the post of Deputy Secretary General of people's daily. She will join hands with Yu Minhong to build the first sports industry innovation and entrepreneurship platform in China.
In 2016, Deng Yaping moved to the business sector to act as a venture capital judge of maker heroes.
On October 29, 2016, with the approval of Henan Provincial People's government, Henan Deng Yaping sports industry investment fund was officially established in Henan Province, which is the first sports industry fund named by famous athletes in China.
Early experience
Deng Yaping was born in a table tennis family. Her father Deng DASONG was once a table tennis player in Henan Province. Since Deng Yaping was more than two years old, his father often put Deng Yaping on his bicycle and took Deng Yaping to the workers' club to watch them play. Deng Yaping learned table tennis from her father when she was 5 years old, and her father developed a set of training methods different from the routine. In the beginning, Deng Yaping took a direct racquet. Because Deng Yaping was slow and had short arms, she was asked to take a horizontal racquet the next year. In two years of training, Deng Yaping practiced forehand attack. This kind of special training method can't be found in all table tennis textbooks. Deng Yaping has been very serious since she was a child. Deng Yaping encountered many difficulties on her way of growing up. Because of her short stature, the provincial team didn't want her. Her father told Deng Yaping about all these things. Deng Yaping understood what her father meant: if others say you can't do it, you have to fight for your own voice and work harder. Therefore, Deng Yaping has been very good since she was a child and can endure hardships in training. When practicing one-sided attack, Deng Yaping tied sandbags on her legs and ran right and left in front of two men. She had been playing for two hours. Her cervical spine, lumbar spine, knee joint, ankle joint and other parts with axis were injured. The strain of lumbar muscle made her pain unbearable. She had to wear a wide waist guard. Her knee joint fat pad was swollen and her ankle joint was almost covered with bone spurs Not a word. If I can't stand it, I'll have an injection. In 1982, 9-year-old Deng Yaping won the women's singles championship in the National Amateur Sports School Division competition.
In 1983, Deng Yaping left home and came to the table tennis team of Zhengzhou City, where she studied and played.
In early 1986, Deng Yaping was seconded to Henan provincial team. In April 1986, Huaihua, Hunan Province held the National Table Tennis Association Cup competition. Deng Yaping worked with her teammates to win the team championship for Henan Province in this competition. At the end of the same year, Deng Yaping won the team and individual championship on behalf of Henan team in the National Championship held in Zhengzhou.
In 1988, 15-year-old Deng Yaping won the national young women's singles championship in table tennis again.
In November 1988, Deng Yaping officially entered the Chinese table tennis team. In the same year's Asian Cup, Deng Yaping defeated Li Huifen, the silver medalist of women's singles in Seoul Olympic Games, to win the women's singles championship.
In 1989, in the 40th World Table Tennis Championships, Deng Yaping and Qiao Hong joined hands and won the women's Doubles Championship in the first World Table Tennis Championships, becoming one of the youngest world championships in the history of national table tennis.
On May 23, 1990, Deng Yaping cooperated with Qiao Hong, Gao Jun and Chen Zihe to win the first women's table tennis world cup.
On May 6, 1991, 18-year-old Deng Yaping knocked out Li Fanji with a 3-0 record in 45 minutes in the women's singles final of the 41st World Table Tennis Championship, winning the world women's singles championship. In September of the same year, Deng Yaping won the "Samaranch Cup" International Table Tennis Championship held in Matsumoto Prefecture, Japan.
In 1992, Deng Yaping participated in the Barcelona Olympic Games as the absolute main force of the Chinese team, and finally won two gold medals in women's singles and women's doubles in the Barcelona Olympic Games.
In 1993, Deng Yaping, Qiao Hong, Chen Zihe and Gao Jun won the women's team championship in the World Table Tennis Championships in Sweden.
In 1994, she lost to Junichiro Koyama and won the silver medal in the Hiroshima Asian Games.
In 1995, Deng Yaping won the women's singles, women's doubles and women's team in the world table tennis championships.
In 1996, at the Atlanta Olympic Games, Deng Yaping won two gold medals in women's singles and doubles. During this period, Deng Yaping ranked first in women's table tennis in the world for eight consecutive years. From the end of 1980s to the end of 1990s, Deng Yaping almost dominated the singles and doubles champions of all major events. The media called this period the "Deng Yaping era" of table tennis.
In May 1997, Deng Ya Ping won three championships in Manchester World Table Tennis Championships, namely women's League, women's doubles and women's singles. After that, she officially retired from the national team and successively entered Tsinghua University and University of Cambridge to learn English.
In the second half of 1998, Deng Yaping came back from Britain and prepared for the Asian Games in Bangkok. As the national team had been topped by new players, Deng Yaping officially announced her retirement in September.

In 2002, Deng Yaping served on the ethics committee and the sports and Environment Committee of the International Olympic Committee.
In 2004, Deng Yaping was officially transferred from the State General Administration of sports to the Olympic Village Department of BOCOG as vice minister of the Olympic Village Department and deputy director of the Olympic Village office.
On November 17, 2008, Deng Yaping was promoted to deputy director of the equipment management center of the State General Administration of sports.
In April 2009, Deng Yaping became deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League Beijing Municipal Committee.
In September 2010, Deng Yaping was appointed Deputy Secretary General and general manager of people's daily. After taking office, Deng Yaping fully participated in the daily management of people's search and promoted all kinds of work in an all-round way.
On December 2, 2015, Deng Yaping was employed as an adjunct professor of China University of political science and law.
On December 25, 2018, Deng Yaping was elected to the Standing Committee of the 13th Executive Committee of Henan women's Federation.

Seeking a career as a student
In 1997, Deng Yaping came to Tsinghua University to study in the Department of foreign languages. In 2001, Deng Yaping obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the Department of foreign languages, Tsinghua University. In September 2001, Deng Yaping came to the University of Nottingham in the UK to study Chinese contemporary studies. This year, she served on the ethics committee of the IOC and on the sports and Environment Committee. In December 2002, Deng Yaping received a master's degree in Contemporary Chinese studies from the University of Nottingham, UK; in 2003, Deng Yaping became a staff member of the market development department of BOCOG. After receiving her master's degree, she left for Cambridge University to pursue her doctorate in economics.
In 2008, Deng Yaping graduated from the Christian College of Cambridge University with a doctorate in land economics. He won the men's singles championship in five provinces of Central and southern China. After retiring, he taught in Henan provincial team and was the head coach of the men's team. In October 2004, Deng Yaping and Lin Zhigang, the male table tennis player of the national team, quietly got their marriage certificate in Beijing. They settled down in a three bedroom and two living room house in Beijing Longtanhu community.
