Wei Peijin (1752-1808), a native of Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province, was a calligrapher of Youshan. He was good at writing various styles of poems and essays. He was known as "Wenhu" by his classmates. There are biographies in Jiaqing Yangzhou Prefecture annals, Jiaqing Jiangdu county annals, HUAIJI County annals and beizhuan Jibu.
Wei Peijin once served as the magistrate of Lingyun County in Guangxi for two years, leaving dozens of works describing the local customs of Baise.
Life of the characters
In 1778, Wei Peijin was the 28th Jinshi in the third grade of 1898. Ten years later, he entered his official career in 1788 and was granted the title of magistrate of Cangwu County in Guangxi. Later, Wei Peijin successively served as county magistrate of HUAIJI (Guangxi at that time), Maping (now Liuzhou) and Lingyun. He was an official for 10 years and "committed ten odd wrongs".
In 1797 and 1798, Wei Peijin took office in Lingyun. At that time, Wei Chaoyuan of Nanlong (now Anlong, Guizhou) led the local people to launch an anti Qing uprising. Wei Peijin was in charge of military supplies. He was dismissed from his post and ordered to stay in the military camp for the sake of "transporting military supplies and shirking responsibilities". In 1799, Wei Peijin was sent to Yili, Xinjiang to defend the border for atonement. He was released eight years later. After that, he served his mother and taught students in Jiangdu until his death.
