Chen ting (1968 -) is the fourth chairman of the Wikimedia Council. He was born in Shanghai, China, grew up in Harbin, and completed primary and secondary school education there. In 1989, he came to Brunswick, Germany, to study electrical engineering. He was deeply interested in semiconductors and their physical principles. In 1993, he obtained a university diploma and now works in an IT company in Mainz, Germany.
Chen Ting first came into contact with the online virtual community when he was in University. He once managed a forum introducing scientific knowledge on Fido net in German for many years. In 2003, I learned about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects from a news about German Wikipedia. Since then, Wikipedia has become his new hobby. At first, he participated in the compilation of German Wikipedia, but soon turned to Chinese Wikipedia. Chen Ting participated in the first international Wikimedia annual conference held in Frankfurt (Wikimania 2005), participated in a group discussion and introduced the Chinese community, and helped organize the international Wikimedia annual conference held in Taipei (Wikimania 2007). He was elected by Wikimedia community as a member of the Council in June 2008 and took office in July 2008. In July 2010, Chen Ting became chairman of the Wikimedia Council.
