Chen Zhongxiang is a hydrodynamist. He is from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Graduated from Department of petroleum engineering, Tsinghua University in 1953. In 1962, he received the associate doctor's degree of technical science from Moscow Institute of Petroleum Chemistry and natural gas industry. He returned to China in the same year.

He has successively served as deputy director of Petroleum Development Research Office of Beijing Institute of petroleum and senior engineer of petroleum exploration and Development Research Institute of Ministry of petroleum industry. We have made a deep research on the two-phase multi-dimensional seepage, the two-phase displacement seepage, the dual media seepage and the multi-layer reservoir seepage related to the oil development, and have made achievements.
